“Stars at Bedtime” is an initiative and association that brings professional voice actors to the bedsides of hospitalized children to read bedtime stories.

Founded by voice actors, and open to other professional members of the theater, film, and tv world, volunteers use their acting skills to make the words of a page come alive by using their natural talents for storytelling. The goal of “Stars at Bedtime” is to help ease the trauma of the hospital environment for pediatric patients by providing a fun, interactive storytime experience.

In the world of voiceovers and acting, performance through reading can delight people of all ages. Our project's focus is on children’s hospitals in the evenings hours, when daytime programming and visiting hours have ended. The evening hours can be particularly distressing for children, especially if their parents have gone home and they are left alone in an unfamiliar environment. A bedtime story from a volunteer reader can offer relief and entertainment to children who may feel scared in an unfamiliar hospital environment. And parents staying with their children can feel more comfortable taking a break, knowing their child will be happily engaged in storytime.
